Job Opening: "W1 assistant professorship in marketing with tenure track to W3"

The Marketing Center Münster (MCM) at the School of Business and Economics of the University of Münster invites applications for the following position to commence on 1 April 2025:

W1 assistant professorship in marketing

with tenure track to W3

(successor to Prof Dr Manfred Krafft)

As one of the leading marketing departments with around 30 professors, post-doctoral researchers and doctoral candidates, the MCM provides an excellent personal, cultural, and structural environment for outstanding achievement in research and teaching.

Focus of the professorship and compatibility: The prospective appointee is expected to represent the field of business administration, specifically market-oriented management, in research and teaching. The candidate must hold a university degree in business administration and should focus on current and future key challenges in marketing, particularly digitalisation. The candidate is expected to gradually establish a specialisation in marketing/customer analytics. With regard to research and teaching, the candidate should contribute to the activities of the MCM team, current professorial staff and other areas of the faculty (e.g. the Research Center for Business Transformation) and the University. After successfully completing the tenure-track process, the position holder will be offered a W3-level appointment as chair of the marketing department in 2030 in succession to Prof Dr Manfred Krafft.

Research: The prospective appointee must be capable of conducting research at the highest academic level within the subject area of the professorship. This qualification is primarily demonstrated through the quality of their scholarly publications, where both published and promising submissions in top international journals are of particular importance (such as those listed in the Financial Times Top 50 Journals list). Integration into an international research network is explicitly desired, as is some initial experience in securing peer-reviewed third-party funding. The candidate should engage in theoretically grounded, quantitatively empirical research and thus possess solid expertise in marketing research methods. With a view to the intended focus of the professorship, knowledge and experience in handling large and unstructured data sets are desirable.

Teaching: The candidate should be committed to high-quality teaching, possess strong didactic skills and have experience with digital teaching methods. The ability and willingness to teach courses in English at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels are required.

Knowledge transfer: The candidate should demonstrate a willingness and ability to make their research results accessible to the broader public and thereby enrich societal discourse.

Engagement: The candidate should convincingly demonstrate commitment to assuming academic administrative duties within their faculty.

To be eligible for this position, candidates are required to hold a university degree and exceptional academic qualifications, which are typically demonstrated through a distinguished doctoral degree.

The University of Münster strongly supports equal opportunity and diversity. We welcome all applicants regardless of sex, nationality, ethnic or social background, religion or worldview, disability, age, sexual orientation or gender identity. We are committed to creating family-friendly working conditions. Part-time options are generally available. We actively encourage applications by women. Women with equivalent qualifications and academic achievements will be preferentially considered unless these are outweighed by reasons which necessitate the selection of another candidate.
